This week we pay tribute to the late Fela Kuti in recognition of what would have been his 75th birthday (he passed away back in 1997). The Nigerian, singer, saxophonist, song writer, producer, dancer, and activist, was the main innovator of the style Afrobeat. Afrobeat is one of the funkiest styles of dance music, and Kuti's catalog is an excellent way of getting into the music. Kuti's life is a story interesting enough to inspire numerous books, documentaries, and even a broadway play. Studebaker Hawk plays his favorites from Kuti's discography.
